The broad center of popular music: songs built around melody, a clear verse and chorus, and mass appeal. Modern pop took shape from the 1950s and 1960s with the Beatles, Motown and the Brill Building writers, and has absorbed nearly every style since. Everything else on this site is a branch or a neighbour of it.
